  Landscape and Fantasy
  
  The landscape seen by an ancient Japanese poet, Ōtomo no Yakamochi, in the 8th century has a lyrical quality that we today can deeply sympathise with.
  Can we overlap the landscape of the ancient waka poems with today's cities?
  
  "The wisteria wave is swaying in the wind,
  Its shadow is reflected in the lake.
  The water is so clear that I can see stones that shine like a pearl at the bottom."

  風景とファンタジー　大城夏紀
  
  現在の都市に、万葉集の和歌の風景を重ねることはできないだろうか？ということを考えた。
  奈良時代の歌人である大伴家持は、746年から越中（富山県周辺）の地に5年ほど住み、多くの秀歌を詠んだ。異郷の地で創作意欲を刺激されながら、「布勢の水海」と呼ばれる大きな湖でも、何度か舟遊びをしている。
  
  長い月日を経てその湖は消えてしまったけれども、富山県氷見市には「布勢の円山」が今でも残る。かつては島だったらしいその小山に登ると、鬱蒼とした樹々の隙間から平べったい地形が盆地のように広がっていて、大伴家持が舟を浮かべて和歌を詠んだ水海が、現実の風景に重なる。

  私が暮らす川崎市には、古墳でもある夢見ヶ崎動物公園がある。そこから見下ろす現実の風景はマンションばかりになった。
  でも、どことなく富山の「布勢の円山」からの眺望と重なることで、夢見ヶ崎は富山へとつながり、さらには和歌に詠まれた水海が広がり、私は747年の風景を前に立つ。
  言葉が風景を形づくるならば、場所も時間も飛び越えて、現実はファンタジーに、ファンタジーは現実になる。
  つまり、「布勢の水海」は至るところに偏在できるのだ。
  
  
  藤波の　影なす海の　底清み　沈く石をも　玉とそ我が見る

  ［風に揺れなびく藤が、（布勢の水海の）水面に姿を映す。底が見えるほどに水が澄んでいる。水底に沈む石さえも、まるで真珠のように輝いて私には見える。］
  
  
  ホトトギスの木製バッジについて
  
  夏の訪れを知らせる鳥（あるいは回想の象徴）として、万葉集でもその鳴き声が多く詠まれている。大伴家持も、越中にてホトトギスの声を待ち望む歌を幾度となく詠んでいる。
